Dr. Agnes Miklos-Illes comes from a family of musicians. She grew up learning music with the Kodaly method in her native country of Hungary.
Kodaly believed that “music belongs to everyone”. This philosophy had a great impact on Agnes. As a teacher she aspires not only to guide her students in how to play an instrument, but to foster their love of music as well.
Agnes began taking piano lessons at the age of 8, preparing to become a professional musician. For years she enjoyed taking daily music classes. Later she decided to turn to academia, and earned her M.A. and Doctor Universitatis degree in Economics, focusing her research on Intellectual History.
Despite her detour into academia,

music remained a very important part of her life. In 1991, while studying in Switzerland, she started teaching piano.
After moving to the Bay Area she began studying piano again with Michael Seth Orland of U.C. Berkeley and completed her Suzuki piano teacher training with Caroline Fraser at Holy Names University in Oakland.
Agnes currently teaches at her studio at the University Village in Albany.
She is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. About her completed units in the Suzuki Piano Teacher Training Program of the association see:
